Day 13- Rio De Blanco, Banos

A slight confusion with today's local fruit known as Guayaba, which is round, with a yellow peel, yellowish-pinkish flesh and is quite sourish, hence is served up with sugar as a juice, or made into a jam which in the foreign market is known as… guava

This morning started with clear and sunny skies, but to our dismay, it swiftly became overcast. This change was particularly disappointing since we had intended to journey to Rio De Blanca, situated at an elevation of approximately 2000 meters, known for its abundant clearwings butterflies.

We were on the verge of abandoning this location and returning to Topo due to the onset of rain and persistent clouds upon our arrival after waiting for about an hour.  However, as we descended, a sudden weather shift brought forth a handful of fluttering butterflies. Intrigued, we chose to remain and explore the area in the hope of discovering the elusive Ithomiidae within the Elzunia genus group.

Olie had to drive through a shallow rocky stream

Despite the initial disappointment, the day turned out to be another joyful one. Before returning to the lodge, we headed to Banos for dinner.

More beautiful sceneries on our way back to the lodge!
